Dakas Keramik Rhodos Hand Made in Greece Peacock Floral Bud Vase 24K Gold TrimThis is a lovely vintage black bud vase, handmade of ceramic pottery on the island of Rhodos, Greece. This 4.25 inch tall black bud vase features a hand painted floral design centered around two peacocks on both sides enhanced with 24K trim. The bottom is signed "Dakas Keramik, Handmade in Rhodos 24 Kt Gold". This bud vase measures 4.25 inches tall by 3 in diameter. There is a tiny chip on the bottom rim that is shown in photos #5 and #9.
Rhodes is the largest of the Dodecanese islands of Greece and is also the island group's historical capital. Administratively the island forms a separate municipality within the Rhodes regional unit, which is part of the South Aegean administrative region. In the 1960's the island started to enjoy a boom in tourism, resulting in a current economy that is tourist-oriented. Tourism has elevated Rhodes economically, compared to the rest of Greece, to one of the richest islands and most attractive tourist destinations in Greece. Rhodes Island is known for its tradition in pottery and ceramics, and there are documents stating that clay bricks from the island of Rhodes were used in construction of the dome of Hagia Sofia Byzantine church in Constantinople. Pottery is the most common artifact found on ancient archaeological sites and fine examples of local work can be seen in the Rhodes Archaeological Museum. Ceramics and pottery was used by the ancient Greeks in their daily life and of played an important role in every aspect of Greek ancient life such as sports, banquets, weddings, and funerals.
